Training and support

We are as committed to our volunteers as they are to us. That is why our Volunteer Support Team is here to equip you with all you need.

We are as committed to our volunteers as they are to us. That is why our Volunteer Support Team is here to equip you with all you need.

We help you through the induction process and training, and when you have joined our team we work closely with you to make sure you are feeling happy and confident in the role. We can talk with you and we will take note of any preferences that you have; such as only being prepared to travel a certain distance.

Training

Training sessions usually take place monthly at our London Head Offices in Hammersmith & we also offer regular regional ones, based on the demand in each area. These sessions are easily accessible by public transport being close to tube stations on the District, Piccadilly and Hammersmith and Metropolitan lines and also main bus routes.  We can also offer disabled parking for those volunteers with mobility issues although these spaces need to be pre-booked. Training usually takes place on a weekday & run for a maximum of 4.5 hours and needs to be completed before you can start your volunteering.

For our Visitors, before making your very first visit, you can ask to shadow another more experienced volunteer but if you feel sufficiently confident at the end of your training then you can start your volunteering as soon as we have a suitable visit in your area. You will also be invited back for refresher training days when you have been with us for two years to ensure that everyone is up to date with information about both our charity and any changes to volunteer processes. It is also important to refresh your own knowledge on a regular basis to ensure we remain compliant with relevant legislation such as Data Protection.

Support

In respect of support we have a dedicated staff team in place to support our volunteers and, after training, ongoing support is provided in a number of different ways tailored to your preferences such as via telephone or e-mail.
