A live service area is sometimes called a “gateway area”.  Before 1st January 2018, some people were able to claim Universal Credit if they lived in a live service area.

However, you will now not be able make a new claim for Universal Credit if you live in a live service area.  You will only be able to make a claim for Universal Credit if you live in a full digital service area.

You can continue to receive Universal Credit if you are already receiving it and living in a live service area.

All areas will eventually become full digital service areas.  Please see our Universal Credit Timetable for more information.
